Last week we were fortunate enough to make our summer trip up to Bass Lake and Yosemite again. Oh my! What a trip it was! This year we drove up with Uncle and Kristina. After miles of “farmvilles,” getting to Coarsegold was a great relief, as it is a sign that we are very close!
We spotted this neat little shop that sells carvings and such, which had a pile of logs and wood off to the side. We figured it might be a good place to buy cheap firewood, and it turns out the guy was nice enough to sell us a bunch of wood for a really good price. Now, when I say “a bunch” of wood, I am not exaggerating. We ended up getting a huge pile of wood (and we didn’t even use it all!). After our wood stop, we grabbed some stuff at the store, picked up a pizza to go at Round Table, and made our way to our site.
We ate our pizza hungrily before setting up camp. The long drive and setting up, usually wipes us out, so the first day is not as eventful. But resting in this little gem of a campsite, we can’t really complain.
Friday was where the fun began. We head out to our usual Miller’s Landing for the boat rental. As we arrive, I spot this sign… “Starbucks at the lake, life is good!” This is true, even if they didn’t have Starbucks!
We get on the boat, and head out for the day.
The boy is happy.
As always, the lake is beautiful…
We enjoyed our time on the boat, and also spent some time on the raft that Guada had brought along.
Even Tuggy jumped in the “small boat” for some time.
Diesel was sad, waiting for Papa. He was eager to be with Papa, so much that he jumped into the lake for a fast swim towards the raft. Lol.
Not Wilson though, as always he shivered and huddled nervously until someone cuddled up with him.
Uncle spent his time as Captain of the boat. Poor guy almost hit another boat before we even pulled away from Miller’s Landing. Lol.
This year we didn’t get to beach it on the boat, and BBQ as we usually do. In fact, our burgers flew away after we decided to anchor our boat for a grilling break. Lol. Never again!
Oh well, we had fun being silly as we rushed back to Miller’s Landing to grab some take out instead.
After a long day of boating, we head back to the site to make s’mores and get cozy by the fire and rest up for the long day ahead of us.
Sadly, Guada headed back early on Saturday. The rest of us drove up to Yosemite for the day.
We made our usual stop at Tunnel View, but it never stops to amaze me… it is breathtaking. I feel fortunate to have been able to visit Yosemite once, and incredibly lucky and grateful to be able to come back yet again.
My gorgeous kid. The background suits him well. Lol.
We picked Cathedral Beach as our picnic spot. After some sandwiches, we walked along the Merced and let Tuggy and Diesel play in the water. Tuggy lost his footing, and dunked his whole body in the frigid Merced. Poor little guy.
He looked funny walking away after his “swim” in the Merced.
Uncle spotted a deer who had come to the river for a drink. It was so beautiful! We spent a few minutes watching it slowly moved away from us and pranced off into the forest. Little did we know that this wasn’t the only wildlife action we were getting that day. (More details to follow in a separate post).
