We made a quick drive to the Lake Arrowhead area for a weekend camping trip at Dogwood Campground. Uncle David drove up to the site first, and luckily he did because by the time we made it up there it was already midnight on Friday and it was super hard to find the campground at night.
The first day we made breakfast and then head out to Lake Arrowhead for a walk around the village. Tuggy enjoyed some time at Lollipop Park. Then, we came back to the campsite where Block and Fred made burgers. Yum. At night, we roasted marshmallows and made s’mores with Kristina, Uncle David, Block and Maxi. Time went by so fast….
The next day we made a quick trip to Lake Arrowhead to shop with Grandma Shirley and Fred. Lake Arrowhead is so gorgeous. We were interested in seeing if there was a place to rent kayaks, but there is no rentals for water recreation. A bit disappointed, we went to the visitor center to see what else we can do before we have to make the drive back home. We decided to make a trip down to Lake Gregory before going home and I am sure glad we did. It was Tuggy’s favorite part of the camping trip for sure.
Lake Gregory is a small lake filled with lots of water recreation activities for very cheap. We barbecued some burgers, played in the sand, and splashed around in the water for several hours. Best part of the trip. We will definitely have to come back with Tuggy’s cousins another time.

Before going out there, I said I would not be leaving Yosemite without going to the Mariposa Grove. And sure enough, Sunday morning, when everyone else was getting ready to pack up and go, we packed up and made the trip back up to Yosemite to see the magnificent giants. What a sight…
The trees are huge! We didn’t make it up the whole way. It was hot, we were tired, and none of us were quite prepared for the hike up, so we strolled along about a 3/4 mile up before giving up.
That’s pretty good for a two year old. He didn’t seem to mind the walk at first. (It’s fair to blame it on him, right?) 🙂
The sun sure was bright, but checking out these gigantic beauties make the suffering a little easier.

If there is one thing in life I want, it’s for my son to be happy. There is one thing for certain, this kid is happy in nature.
The whole trip, this kid is all smiles. And its clear why…. Yosemite is one of my favorite places to explore nature. This year, on the way down, we happened to just miss sighting (and possibly hitting) a brown bear. The two cars behind me, had to stop suddenly to avoid hitting the bear who nonchalantly crossed the road. This perhaps, was a precursor to the sounds we would hear that night.
After our long drive back to the campsite, we rested, showered, and lit up the bbq to roast hot dogs. In the distance, I heard what sounded like a grunting bear. I joked about it, stating that the bear was coming to get our hot dogs. Little did I know, that the sounds of the bear would get closer and closer as the night went on. So much that we panicked, jumped in the car, and went looking for the bear.
Oddly enough we were the only ones who seemed bothered by this bear, so we went back to our tents, and called it night. Luckily, that was the last of the bear we would hear. Quite a story to remember!
Since I am usually the photographer, I don’t usually get in the shot. Luckily, one nice woman offered to take a photo for us. 🙂
Every now and then you see a photo that says…. “Ahhhh…. this is the life!”
For me, this is it. We made this trip last year, and we made it again this summer, and I gotta say… I have to keep coming back for more. This is definitely the best time of the year for my family. Its the one time, I get a break from my phone, my work, chores, traffic, neighbors…. and just enjoy the beauty that is a few days in nature with my family.
On a trip like this, there are too many shots, too many beautiful moments to be able to share them all, but here are some of my favorites. In the one below, we had pulled the boat ashore. Tuggy brought out his “surfboard” and played alongside the water. He was a big fan…. he had the best time!
Wilson on the other hand, did not! He hates the water… but the boy loves his sun bathing.
Before making it out to the boat, this kid made us go down to town to find him his fishing pole.
We were able to find him a buzz lightyear fishing pole, but he also left with an angry birds toy from the claw machine.
4 days here just isn’t enough.
